Jason Williams Acquired From Atlanta

The Blue Jackets have acquired Jason Williams from the Atlanta Thrashers for defensemen Clay Wilson, and a 6th rounder.  This is a solid step for the Blue Jackets in regards to the depleted offense, and mediocre powerplay.

Williams is a right handed shot, and will be useful on the point in the powerplay.  Considering the Jackets have not had a good right handed shot yet this year while up a man, this should give them a better opportunity to get quick shots to the net.

Consider this a positive move for the Jackets, who are in desperate need of offensive help, and warm bodies will definitely be welcomed.

  1. I haven't seen Jason Williams play much but the experts' reviews on him are pretty good. Considering his salary is not bad and we didn't have to give up a current Jacket, looks good so far. Sorry to see Clay Wilson go but you have to trade something to get something.... Hopefully Williams will be in the lineup Friday. Go Jackets!

  2. Williams is considered a powerplay specialist, and has scored about 30% of his goals with the man advantage. I'd say killed two birds with one stone here. Added a warm body of the NHL caliber who can play the point with a right shot, and we avoided losing a player who we could have used.

Let's be honest, while Clay played well at the AHL level, his inability to crack the big roster would only decrease his value over time.
