January 30th-February 5 CBJ Prospect Week in Review

Greetings all hows everyones clock running? Starting off in the AHL, it was the All Star break which I talked about last week after a few days of R and R the boys were back at it. The Falcons had a 3 in 3 last weekend going 1-2 only scoring 6 goals while allowing 12. Starting off in Providence the Falcons lost 4-1 with Dane Byers scoring the only goal and Paul Dainton taking the loss stopping 23 of 27. On Staurday it was back home to the nest for a game against Norfolk this was a rough 0n many levels first with the Falcons losing 6-1 then with 82 penalty minutes being handed out including a match penalty to Falcons Dman Theo Ruth for cross-checking in the second period. Matt Calvert scored his 9th of the season. Manny Legace stopped 5 of 9 in a period and a half of work(yikes!) Paul Dainton came in and...well played stopping 12 of 14. Sunday night the Falcons finally got it together and finished off its home and home with Norfolk beating the Admirals 4-2 Paul Dainton made 24 saves in the win. With Matt Calvert scoring for the second game in a row. Calvert led the Falcons in scoring last week with two goals and a assist while Cam Atkinson, Brent Regner and Alexandre Giroux all had two assists each.

A lot more prospects than usual had or took the week off last week. Boone Jenner has missed the General's last three games with a injury missing two last week. The Express went 3-0 last week part of the team's five game winning streak but no Jackets prospect played for them so let's move on. Last week I said Minnesota would be facing off with Denver well I was wrong thats this weekend the Gophers were off, sorry about that and a what has become about standard Martin Ouelette did not make a appearance in the Black Bear's net while the team went 2-0.

Dalton Smith-Ottawa 67s(OHL)
Stats 40GP 14-10-24 -5 61PIM
The 67s went 1-1 last week picking up a win over Oshawa then losing to Kingston. In the win over Oshawa Dalton picked up his 10th assist when he threw a puck into the crease and caught Steven James crashing the net(1:40). In the loss Dalton was held scoreless.

Brandon Archibald-Saginaw Spirit(OHL)
Stats 50GP 1-12-13 -3 54PIM
Brandon was one of the Jackets busier prospects as he and the Spirit went off on a rough three game road trip that included playing two teams that are only a half hour apart mixing in a trip to Pennsylvania to play the Otters. Brandon only had a assist(1:05) in the three game trip picking it up against Guelph.

Lukas Sedlak-Chicoutimi Sagueneens(QMJHL)
Stats 39GP 16-25-41 +19 44PIM
The Sags are currently on a five game winning streak winning two last week. Lukas picked up two assists last week. Lukas outdid fellow faceoff specialist Michael Chaput in a win over Rouyn-Noranda Lukas won 23 of 26 faceoffs the next night also against Rouyn-Noranda he won 15 of 22 winning 79% of the faceoffs he took last week.

Petr Straka-Rimouski Oceanic(QMJHL)
Stats 40GP 13-15-28 -8 27PIM
Petr Straka had his best game of the season in a wild one, in a 8-7 overtime win over Victoriaville. Going into the second period the Oceanic had a 4-1 lead over the Tigres but let the roar back to then take a 7-6 lead before tying it. All three of Petr's points came in the first two periods scoring the team's first and sixth goal and assisting on the third. Petr was named second star in the victory. Then it was off to Quebec where Petr scored his 13th of the season in the Rimouski 9-3 win. Petr was held scoreless in a loss to Drummondville.

Mathieu Corbeil-Saint John Sea Dogs(QMJHL)
Stats 38GP 29-9 2.42GAA .910SV% 5SO
The Sea Dogs played 2 games last week winning the first in a shootout to make it six in a row, Corbeil didnt play in that one he played in the big game last week. It was time for another Shawinigan-Saint John game and this one was a nasty. According to my Saint John source there were scrums after almost every whistle, controversial hits and according to everyone it was Corbeil's best game of the season. In the win Corbeil stopped 37 of 38 missing only one in the first period. To clinch the victory in the battle of the QMHL's top two teams Dog's captain Jonathan Huberdeau scored with only 30 seconds left.

Michael Chaput-Shawinigan Cataractes(QMJHL)
Stats 41GP 14-32-46 +29 33PIM
Michael returned to the Cats lineup after serving his two game suspension from the brawl in Gatineau. Chaput had his third three point game of the season scoring two goals and a assist and was named first star in a 8-1 win. Then in the matchup with the Sea Dogs Chaput was held without a point. On the week Michael won 66% of his faceoffs winning 27 of 41.

Austin Madaisky-Kamloops Blazers(WHL)
Stats 53GP 11-29-40 +16 60PIM
In three games last week Austin had a goal and a assist adding more to his career season, all in the Blazers win at home over Spokane on Gordie Howe night(this writer is jealous). Austin's goal came when he pinched in on a power play to score his team leading 10th power play goal. Then the team headed south(I think) to take on Vancouver continuing to Seattle. In the two game road trip Austin went scoreless. With the win over Seattle Kamloops became one of the first team in the WHL to claim a playoff spot.

Oliver Gabriel-Portland Winterhawks(WHL)
Stats 19GP 9-7-16 +6 24PIM
Oliver continued his strong play of late adding to his current point streak with three points in two games last week. In a 7-3 win over Everett Oliver had 2 goals(1,2) and was named third star. In the Hawks loss to Vancouver outworked a Giant to get the puck to Flames first round pick Sven Bartschi so Taylor Peters could blast his 11th goal(30 seconds in) of the season.

Wanna do something a little different gonna just do a quick update on the players who didnt have any points last week. If youd rather I did the whole stat update like the ones above just let me know and ill go back to normal next week. In Michigan's sweep of Miami both Trent Vogelhuber and Will Weber scoreless but Will decided to bump up his penalty minutes. Now I never say a person deserves a beating but when a player makes you look silly then TEBOWS! he may be askin for it. Drew Olson did his normal scoreless in the Bulldogs split with Alaska-Anchorage. Olson was a -1 with no penalty minutes last weekend.

Thomas Larkin-Colgate(ECAC)
Stats 26GP 4-8-12 +/- 44PIM
The Raiders traveled to Union and RPI last weekend losing to Union and defeating RPI. In the loss Larkin had no points and was even. The next night they traveled to New York playing RPI in its annual Big Red Freakout and boy did the Raiders freakout erupting for eight goals for the first time since 07-08. Larkin scored his fourth goal on a power play goal(4:00 minutes in the player). On a quick lookout in the future note Stars draft pick Austin Smith scored four goals in the romp to give him 30 on the year.

Sean Collins-Cornell(ECAC)
Stats 23GP 9-8-7 +/- 2PIM
Like always Collins played the same teams as Larkin earning a tie in both games. Sean opened the scoring on Friday with a power play goal, the Big Red was up 2-0 but allowed the Engineers to score twice in the third to tie the game. Then in the team's tie with first place Union Collins opened the scoring again one a two on one with freshman Joel Lowry but Collins wizzed it over the Dutchmen goalie's glove.

Kevin Lynch-Michigan(CCHA)
Stats 28GP 4-5-9 +/- 26PIM
In the sweep of Miami mentioned above Lynch was held scoreless on Friday but then had a assist on Lee Moffie's first period shorthanded goal when he chipped the puck ahead to Luke Glendening who had a two on one with Moffie.

TJ Tynan-Notre Dame(CCHA)
Stats 29GP 12-26-38 +1 24PIM
The Irish welcomed Bowling Green who had won only two of its last 10. On Friday the Irish won 2-1 with Tynan opening the scoring using his speed to get behind three Falcons and score his 12th of the season. On Saturday night in a loss to the Falcons Tynan picked up his 26th assist of the season when he won a faceoff back to his partner in crime Anders Lee who passed it to Robbie Russo who blasted it past the Falcons goalie.

Mike Reilly-Penticton Vees(BCHL)
Stats 38GP 19-43-62 32PIM
The Vees only had one game last week which they won this win was historic because it tied a BCHL record because it was the Vee's 29th straight win(you read that right). Mike had a goal and assist in the win. Mike's assist came when he corralled a puck then chipped into the corner where Mario Lucia sent a cross rink pass to Mike's older brother Connor. Mike then scored his 19th goal of the season to pretty much seal it scoring with 5 minutes left on a three on two beautiful tic tac toe play(Assist at 7:45 Goal 10:10) between Mike, Lucia and Travis St. Denis. Mike and the Vees go for win number 30 on Tuesday.

Anton Forsberg-MODO(Sweden)
Stats 11GP 3-3 3.13GAA .900SV%
MODO only had two games last week with Anton not playing in a 1-0 win over Djurgarden. Then MODO took on AIK when trailing 4-0 after 2 MODO's coach decided to take out Michael Tellqvist and let Anton take over. Anton played most of the third period stopping all four of the shots he faced with AIK's fifth goal being a empty netter.

Threre you have it folks Ill see you next week and as always follow @CBJProspects for the most up to date stats on all these guys.
