Greetings Blue Jackets fans, yes you read it right on twitter(if your on twitter and follow me but details details) I'm back baby. First I wanna thank Craig at Firethecannon.com for letting me post my stuff there for the last 2 seasons. He was the first person to give me a shot and I really appreciated it. So without further ado lets go.
Starting off in Springfield it was your normal 3 in 3 weekend for the Falcons starting at home taking on Portland and in that game the Falcons pretty much pulled a Blue Jackets leading 4-1 going into the 3rd then allowing 3 straight Pirate goals finishing with a 5-4 shootout loss. I know he's not a prospect in the true sense of what I normally cover but Mark Dekanich started the game and made 27 saves then stopping 3 of 5 in the shootout, one of the goals he allowed was on a penalty shot. On Saturday it up to Maine to finish off the home and home with the Pirates, this time the Falcons pulled off a 4-2 victory with old man river Manny Legace making 26 saves in the win. On Sunday it was back to the nest and another episode of the Dexshow, and it was another rough one. Dekanich stopped 24 of 28 along with a empty net goal by Ohio State product Matt ("Chuck" at least that's what id nickname him) Bartowksi which was his second of the night. On the weekend it was Maksim Mayorov and Martin St. Pierre leading the way with a goal and 2 assists. The only other Falcons with multiple points were Cam Atkinson with 2 goals(20,21) and Andrew Joudrey, Matt Calvert and Alexandre Giroux with a goal and assist. Mark Dekanich's weekend went like this 0-1-1 with a 3.89 GAA and a .864 save percentage.
After a winter in Chicago a week long trip to Florida probably sounded great to the Express but you have to play the games, the Express went 0-2-1. Allen York only made it into 1 game trying to clean up Paul Dainton's mess entering the game when the score was 5-2 allowing 2 goals on 14 shots, York then served as Peter Mannino's back up in the team's loss and overtime loss to the Everblades. Steven Delisle played in all 3 games and I think Steven made a friend for life because in the first 2 games Steven fought the same opponent both nights taking on Scott Fletcher. Everything else pretty much went wrong on the trip for Steven including being a -4 in the Express's 7-2 loss on Friday then being a -1 on Saturday night, Sunday is when it got wild. On Sunday the Express battled to a 3-3 tie going all the way to a shootout and it was a quick one only took 15 rounds. Shooter 15 for the Express just happened to be the 6'6" 210lb defensemen all of 1 career point(a assist) Steven Delisle and he missed which gave Florida first place in the South Division.
Boone Jenner-Oshawa Generals(OHL)
Season Stats 30GP 15-19-34 +1 47PIM
Boone and the Generals had a light week only playing 2 games with Boone picking up a assist in the team's lone win last a week a overtime win over Brampton. Boone went pointless in the team's loss to Sudbury, since returning from the World Junior's he only has a assist and is a -4 with 4 penalty minutes.
Dalton Smith-Ottawa 67s(OHL)
Season Stats 32GP 12-7-19-1 55PIM
Dalton Smith and the 67s went 1-1 last week with the loss snapping a 3 game winning streak, Dalton had no points in the loss and was a -1. On Sunday the Belleville Bulls came to town and Dalton scored his 12th of the season on a tip in off 2012 draft prospect Cody Ceci's point shot. Dalton has been piling on the points scoring 7 points(4-3-7) in 8 games since his last major penalty. I bring up his last major penalty since Dalton is a power forward and is regarded as one of the toughest customers in the OHL.
Brandon Archibald-Saginaw Spirit(OHL)
Season Stats 43GP 1-10-11 -4 52PIM
It's been a rough year in Saginaw for the 2011 West Division champs, Saginaw sits at 18-21-0-4 the Spirit only lost 22 games all of last season. But enough history Saginaw went 1-1-1 last week with Jackets prospect and twitter star Brandon Archibald picking up a assist in the team's shootout loss to London. With the OHL's recent trade deadline hopefully Brandon will get more ice time/oppertunities especially with a 6 foot 7 hole being opened up with the trade of Star's 1st Rounder Jamie Olesniak leaving Brandon as the only 19 year old on the Spirit's Blueline.
Lukas Sedlak-Chicoutimi Sagueneens(QMJHL)
Season Stats 31GP 14-19-33 +12 38PIM
Lukas Sedlak has been on a tear that started in December and he hasnt slowed down yet, in his last 10 games he's only been held scoreless twice plus the games he played with the Czech Republic in the World Juniors. In 3 games last week Lukas had 6 points scoring 2 goals and adding 4 assists and was a +1. Sedlak also won 61% of his faceoffs last week winning 36 of 59. Quickly going back to his string of points in his last 10 games Lukas has 8 goals and 8 assists including his first hat trick in North America.
Petr Straka-Rimouski Oceanic(QMJHL)
Season Stats 30GP 10-13-23 -7 21 PIM
Petr Staka finally returned to the Oceanic's lineup after the World Junior's even missing the first period but it's not how you start it's how you finish. Straka was a -1 in the game but when the game got to a shootout it was time for Petr to shine as Rimouski's fourth shooter he scored the shootout's only goal(about 2 minutes in, in French). The next night Straka had his fourth multi point game of the season scoring his 10th of the season also adding a assist.(highlights) After his previous night heroics Straka shot first but he missed.
Mathieu Corbeil-Saint John Sea Dogs(QMJHL)
Season Stats 34GP 25-9 .905Sv% 2.51GAA 4SO
Corbeil only started one of the Sea Dogs two games losing to fellow CBJ prospect Michael Chaput and the Shawinigan Cataractes. Now this series has at least in Sea Dog fan's eyes become a rivalry because pretty much everyone thought Saint John would host this year's Memorial Cup but somehow Shawinigan won the honor and Saint John fans are bitter about it. Now onto the game Corbeil made 22 saves in the loss which included him allowing a goal to Chaput. Corbeil gave the reins to his backup in the team's other game this week and he collected his first career shutout so could be a game until Corbeil is back in the crease.
Michael Chaput-Shawinigan Cataractes(QMJHL)
Season Stats 37GP 12-30-42 +26 26PIM
The Cataractes loaded up on D at the QMJHL trade deadline adding Phoenix 1st round pick Brandon Gormley and he made his debut in the "rivalry" game I brought up earlier. As I also said Chaput scored his 11th of the season on Corbeil, Micheal won 10 of 19 faceoffs in that game. Moving along in its Maritimes road trip the Cats moved on to PEI where Michael scored his 12th goal and added his 30th assists winning 10 of 15 assists. Michael is only 4 assists from his total of last season in 25 less games. On Saturday night Michael Chaput did his impression of Petr Straka going scoreless in the game winning 11 of 22 faceoffs but then in the shootout Chaput clinched the team's 6th straight win.
Austin Madaisky-Kamloops Blazers(WHL)Season Stats 44GP 9-24-33 +14 50PIM I can keep this one kind of brief, Madaisky played in all 3 of the Blazers' wins last week having no points but was a +6 including a season high +4 in a win over Everett. Madaisky despite being scoreless in his last three games is still 6th among WHL defensemen in scoring.
Oliver Gabriel-Portland Winterhawks(WHL)Season Stats 13GP 6-4-10 +5 22PIM Oliver returned to the Hawks lineup after missing 4 games with a upper body injury and scored goals in two of the three games to give him three since being returned from Springfield. The week started off with a two game set with the Kelowna Rocket where Gabriel scored in the first game of the series then being held scoreless in the second game. Then Portland traveled north to take on US division rival the Seattle Thunderbirds. In the 4-0 win over the Tbirds Gabriel scored when teammate Brendan Leipsic created a loose puck right in front of Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard. There you have how the CBJ prospects in the CHL fared so let's get to the team's prospects in the NCAA.
Thomas Larkin-Colgate Red Raiders(ECAC)
Season Stats 20GP 2-6-8 +6 24PIM
After losing only four of its first 20 games Colgate has lost all four of its game in 2012. Last week Colgate loss to Princeton and Quinnipiac by a combined score of 13-3. Jackets prospect Thomas Larkin had no points and was a -3 with no points last week.
Sean Collins-Cornell Big Red(ECAC)
Season Stats 17GP 6-6-12 +5 4PIM
Cornell and Colgate play the same teams each weekend and where Colgate failed Cornell took 3 of 4 points. Sean Collins appears to be heating up as the senior center has 6 points in his last 3 after only 6 in his first 13 games. Collins had 4 points last week scoring a shorthanded goal and then setting up the game winner against Quinnipiac then adding 2 assists against Princeton.
Martin Ouelette-Maine Black Bears
Season Stats 7GP 1-3 .872SV% 3.30GAA
Martin finally got back into the crease for the first time since November 11th trying to clean up Dan Sullivan's mess. He played the third period in Maine's 6-2 loss to Merrimack stopping 9 of 10. Now I thought that in the unwritten laws of hockey it states that of you pull your started the back up starts the next game, well Maine's coach must've went to the Scott Arniel school of law because the next night he threw Sullivan back out there and earned...well a tie but rules are rules!
Trent Vogelhuber, Will Weber-Miami Redhawks(CCHA)
Season Stats TV: 22GP 2-6-8 -2 41PIM. WW: 24GP 0-3-3 -6 24PIM
I combined these two because this will be quick. In the Hawks split with Lake Superior St. both Trent and Will were scoreless and the only difference was Trent being a -1.
Kevin Lynch-Michigan Wolverines(CCHA)
Season Stats 24GP 4-4-8 -2 24PIM
Kevin and the Wolverines played Ohio State last week and got revenge for the Buckeye's November sweep, in the sweep Lynch went scoreless. On Sunday he played in the Frozen Diamond Faceoff(interview with @ericsmithhockey) at Progressive Field in Cleveland, the first outdoor hockey game in Ohio. This is the third outdoor game Lynch has played in and the 25,864 is the smallest crowd.
Seth Ambroz, Jake Hansen-Minnesota Golden Gophers(WCHA)
Season Stats SA: 24GP 4-3-7 +4 39PIM JH: 25GP 9-14-23 +13 34PIM
Last week Minnesota traveled to North Dakota to face its rival the Fighting Sioux(I'm a nobody I can still call them that). In Friday's loss the pair of Jackets prospects had no points but 8 penalty minutes including 6 by freshman power forward Seth Ambroz. Ambroz was part of a melee that led to 3 players on each team earning roughing after the whistle penalties. now if you searched Ambroz Saturday morning on twitter boy were Gopher fans mad at him but I'm guessing his play Saturday night got them back on his side. In the 6-2 win Ambroz scored the game winner and added a assist plus took care of the Sioux's Ben Blood when he lost his mind IN THE HANDSHAKE LINE! Jake Hansen went scoreless in the win as well.
Drew Olson-Minnesota-Duluth(WCHA)
Season Stats 22GP 1-2-3 +8 41PIM
Same old Drew Olson Olson went scoreless last week in the Bulldogs's sweep of...(handed envelope) wait what!? Minnesota Duluth lost a game?! Ok I kid the Bulldogs split with UNO last week and the loss was Duluth's first loss since October 15th.
TJ Tynan-Notre Dame Fighting Irish(CCHA)
Season Stats 23GP 9-22-31 -1 22PIM
TJ Tynan had a goal and a assist as the Irish were swept by Western Michigan. Tynan's assist came in the game on Friday and the goal in the game on Saturday. If I may statgeek out for a second but Tynan's goals per game numbers are down a bit from last year but his assist and points per game are up.
Mike Reilly-Penticton Vees(BCHL)
Season Stats 35GP 17-39-56 32PIM
The Vees are on a 23 game winning streak(yes you read that right) the last time the Vees lost people were taking down Halloween decorations. With the BCHL's recent trade deadline the Vees's boast the league's second through seventh leading scorers including Jacket's prospect Mike Reilly in sixth. Last week after picking up his 39th assist later in the period he fell awkwarldy into the boards and suffered a upper body injury, No timetable has been given for his return.
Anton Forsberg-MODO(Sweden)
Season Stats 8GP 1-3 .886SV% 3.42GAA
Last week Anton returned to the MODO lineup from the WJC but not the lineup he posted the stats with. With MODO on a four game winning streak and ex-NHL goaltender Mikael Tellqvist in the crease Anton was sent to MODO's junior team. Anton played in 2 game going 1-0-1 making 19 saves in a 7-3 win. The next day Anton started again this time in a shootout loss now the site I get my Swedish stats from shows Forsberg stopping 25 of 29 now if it was shootout loss wouldnt it be 28?
Now I know this was a long one maybe next week ill try splitting up the NCAA and the CHL prospects its a work in progress. Also I wanna thank Dan and the Coach(if there the same person im a dope) for getting me back in the blogging buisness. For all the most up to date info on the Jacket's prospect make sure to follow @CBJProspects.
